Will Camp Cretaceous and Chaos Theory Return in Jurassic World: The next Jurassic World movie’s title, plot, first look images, and potential ties to the Netflix cartoon series were all just revealed by Universal.
Jurassic World is the other franchise that has everyone glued to their chairs. The final installment in the series, Jurassic World: Dominion starring Chris Pratt, was released in 2022.
Jurassic World: Rebirth, the next installment in the series, is scheduled to release in the summer of 2020. This week, Universal unveiled a few first-look images, the official title, and the storyline for Gareth Edwards’ fourth picture.
The sci-fi action film, which takes place five years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion in 2022, centers on a number of characters who are attempting to collect DNA from the largest surviving dinosaurs on the globe. The timeline of the franchise was called into doubt by this element in the synopsis, especially in light of the possibility that it would mention the animated spinoffs Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.
The Netflix original series Camp Cretaceous debuted in 2020. It focused on a group of kids who, during the events of Jurassic World (2015), were inadvertently left behind on Isla Nublar. Over the course of the five seasons that made up the series, the Camp Fan evolved into a found family that battled both human and dinosaur enemies.
With regard to Chaos Theory, the show made its Netflix premiere earlier this year, taking place six years after the events of Camp Cretaceous. It came after Camp Fan got back together to look into a possible young adult murder of one of its members.
The series was originally supposed to take place five years after Dominion, but showrunner Scott Kreamer says that the production delay forced them to move that timeline forward to six years. The first season of Chaos Theory is therefore, theoretically, set a year after the events of Rebirth. Another fascinating detail about this is that, according to Rebirth, Earth is now livable for dinosaurs and is not restricted to isolated equatorial regions, unlike Chaos Theory, which had dinosaurs strewn over the US.
Since the reunion of Camp Fan occupied a large portion of Chaos Theory’s first season, it is safe to assume that the group will not appear in Rebirth’s live-action episodes. Nonetheless, the Jurassic World franchise would be more unified if the next movie acknowledged the two animated series.
The release date of Jurassic World: Rebirth is set for July 2, 2025. Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Ed Skrein, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Rupert Friend make up the ensemble cast.
