Mindy Kaling tells Ben Affleck: Ben Affleck is receiving encouragement from Mindy Kaling!
The actress and comedian made reference to the recent divorce case filed by the Justice League star’s wife Jennifer Lopez during her speech on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, Democratic National Convention. She also said that she was “giving a shout-out to the amazing delegation from my home state, Massachusetts.”
Well, Massachusetts, I love you! In a speech video posted on X (previously known as Twitter), Kaling, 45, stated. “Everyone always makes fun of us, but they do not understand!”
“Leave for the Red Sox! Bravo, Jayson Tatum! Ben Affleck, persevere! She went on, joking about 52-year-old Affleck’s Dunkin’ advertisements by saying, “Dunkin’ Doughnuts is the best coffee in the world!”
On Tuesday, August 20, after more than two years of marriage, Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from Affleck.

The singer of “Love Do not Cost A Thing” filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court without an attorney, citing April 26, 2024 as the date of separation.
“I think that she most likely just wanted to get this done, [that] there was a lot of hesitation and hemming and hawing back and forth, and it is a statement, ‘I am moving forward, I am filing and I am doing it on my own,'” PEOPLE was informed by Marilyn Chinitz, a matrimonial partner at Blank Rome LLP, about Lopez’s unusual choice to file without legal representation.
Additionally, Lopez’s filing date fell on the second anniversary of the couple’s Georgian wedding ceremony. Less than a month had passed since she and Affleck were married in Las Vegas on July 17, 2022, when the latter tragedy occurred.
A source told PEOPLE, “She was done waiting and the date she [filed on] speaks a tonne.”
On Tuesday, Affleck was spotted leaving his wedding band behind as he entered a Los Angeles building. The filmmaker and actor donned sunglasses with a black tint and a grey T-shirt.
After the divorce was filed, a source told PERSONS that Lopez is “very disappointed and sad, but Ben has not given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage.”
“He has not demonstrated any dedication or desire to see their marriage succeed. She now only needs to take care of herself at this stage, the insider continued.
The children of Lopez and Affleck, Max and Emme, 16, and Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, remain “a top priority” as the couple moves to dissolve their marriage, a source told PERSONS.
The insider went on, “The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”
