Mina Starsiak Hawk and her husband Steve: Mina Starsiak Hawk, star of Good Bones, is back with a heartfelt and inspirational spinoff series. The new show centers on one of Mina’s unique endeavors, which involves her spouse Steve Hawk. They are going to remodel a significant lake house in Indiana together.

The Hawks are personally invested in this initiative, which goes beyond simple remodelling. Steve has experienced a string of unfortunate incidents: his father unexpectedly passed away from a fall six months later; his mother passed away from stomach cancer in 2018; and his younger sister Stefanie died of ethanol overdose in 2020. Steve and his family have been greatly impacted by these tragedies. Mina says that this lake cottage is meant to be a haven of healing and fresh starts.

In an exclusive preview clip, Mina stated, “Because Steve has lost so much, the lake house is going to feel very healing for him.” She continued, “After some really epic losses in a short time, he is going through life the best way he can.” Their two tiny children, Jack, who is five, and Charlie, who is three, are supposed to make wonderful memories at the lake cottage. “We wanted this lake house for Jack and Charlie—for the long term, for the memories, for the experiences—because his time with his family was cut short,” Mina said.

HGTV will host the spinoff series Mina Takes the Lake. The 90-minute premiere episode will reveal how Mina purchases and renovates the lake property, chronicling the Hawks’ quest to realise their dream and delving into the project’s personal significance.

Karen E. Laine, Mina’s mother from the first season of Good Bones, has a different plot. In Wilmington, North Carolina, Laine plans to start her own remodelling project, turning a 120-year-old cottage into a beach house. Given that she has invested her retirement assets in this endeavour, it carries a high financial risk.

The new offshoot will deal with evolving family dynamics as well. Laine and Mina’s tense relationship will be featured in the episode; Mina has previously alluded to turmoil within her family. As they make these changes, the series will document their individual struggles and victories.

Mina Takes the Lake will air on Wednesday, August 14 at 9 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) or Pacific Time (PT) on HGTV. Both newcomers and admirers of Good Bones can witness Mina and Steve build a haven full of treasured memories and new hopes.

Two additional episodes that explore distinct facets of the refurbishment and personal metamorphoses will follow the premiere. The show will combine the excitement of renovation with poignant storytelling as it delves into Laine’s struggles with her beach house project and Mina’s experiences with the lake house.
