Significant leadership changes have occurred as a result of the resignation of Min Hee Jin, the well-known former CEO of ADOR, the company that created NewJeans. As an internal director, Min Hee Jin will now carry on with production for NewJeans. ADOR’s announcement coincides with allegations that Min Hee Jin concealed bullying and sexual harassment.
The South Korean news source SPOTV News said on August 27, 2024, that NewJeans’ label ADOR made a formal announcement on a leadership transition.
The latest statement claims that the NewJeans agency declared Min Hee Jin’s resignation from her position as CEO of ADOR and her replacement at the same time. ADOR said that following a board meeting, the decision was made to replace Min Hee Jin as CEO with internal director Kim Joo Young.
As the new CEO, Kim Joo Young will stabilise the company and restructure its internal structure, according to ADOR, which introduced her as a human resources specialist with experience in a variety of industries.
After leaving her position as CEO, Min Hee Jin will work as an internal director and producer for the K-pop group NewJeans going forward. Thus, she will carry on serving as NewJeans’ principal producer.
This information was released shortly after Min Hee Jin was charged with bullying and sexual harassment in ADOR by unidentified sources.
In relation to the same, it has been stated that Min Hee Jin is the target of a criminal complaint brought by an ex-ADOR employee for breaking the Labour Standards Act and the Personal Information Protection Act. They allegedly sued Min Hee Jin later on, both civilly and criminally. While sources state that Min Hee Jin was also cited by another ADOR official for unfair workplace practices.
In reference to the leadership transition, ADOR announced in a statement that they would now separate production and management, which they claim is standard practice for multi-label companies. However, they had not been doing so previously because the CEO at the time, Min Hee Jin, was in charge of both. The NewJeans agency went on to say that ADOR intended to “spare no support for NewJeans’ growth and great success” with the appointment of the new CEO.
In other news, Min Hee Jin was sued for defamation by LE SSERAFIM’s agency, Source Music, for 500 million KRW.
