Melissa Gilbert will have a guest appearance in the 12 seasons of When Calls the Heart.: Fans of When Calls the Heart have something to look forward to in 2019: a little reunion of Little House on the Prairie!
Melissa Gilbert is scheduled to make an appearance in the twelfth season of When Calls the Heart, Hallmark revealed on Saturday, September 14, during the annual Hearties Family Reunion in Vancouver, British Columbia.
In the next season, which is scheduled to debut in 2025, Gilbert, 60, will guest feature in a two-episode arc, according to a press statement. Georgie McGill, her fictional character, will open up about “a surprising past with one special Hope Valley resident.”
There will be a particular tie between the actress and Little House on the Prairie in her future cameo. Michael Landon Jr., whose father Michael Landon played the adored Pa (Charles Ingalls) on the family sitcom that ran from 1974 to 1983, is the executive producer of When Calls the Heart.
The idea for Melissa Gilbert Hallmark cameo originated when she and Landon Jr., 60, met again at the Little House on the Prairie 50th Anniversary Cast Reunion and Festival in March. Melissa Gilbert played Laura Ingalls Wilder in the production. It’s worth noting that Landon Jr. himself made two appearances in 1977 episodes of Little House on the Prairie, which adds even more excitement to Melissa Gilbert impending guest role.
When Calls the Heart and Little House on the Prairie share a lot of similarities, according to a statement from Kelly Garrett, vice president of programming at Hallmark Media. “Charming and compelling stories of hope, human connection, and frontier survival” are featured in both presentations, according to her.
Garrett went on, “It was only fitting that the Hearties, who have been celebrating the show year after year and contributing to its success, were the first people to hear this special news.” “We can’t wait for them to meet Georgie next year; the energy they have here sharing this news is contagious.”
Recently, Melissa Gilbert thought back on the influence that Michael Landon, who passed away in 1991 from pancreatic disease, had on the Little House on the Prairie set. “I believe Michael was the quarterback. Thus, he established the tone for our work,” she said earlier this month to people.
Adding that she “was the only cast member who regularly socialized with him and his family,” she recalled their tight relationship.
“Every year during spring break, we all went on vacation together to Hawaii, staying at the same hotel,” she continued. “Mike’s children attended the same school as me. I frequently spent the night at their residence. They stayed the night at my residence.
