Jon Stewart Wins Best Talk Series: The Daily Show, hosted by Jon Stewart, took up the Outstanding Talk Series trophy at Sunday’s 2024 Primetime Emmys.
On Sunday at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, the 76th Primetime Emmys awarded Best Talk Show to The Daily Show. This signified the show’s second consecutive year of victory in the category.
For the final season that Trevor Noah hosted, The Daily Show won an Emmy in 2023. This was the first time since Jon Stewart left the show as host on a full-time basis in 2015.
In the fall of last year, Stewart made a comeback to Comedy Central as a part-time host. He was also nominated for an Emmy for his most recent Apple TV+ program, The Problem With Jon Stewart. As Stewart accepted the speech, he said, “Working with this incredibly talented group once a week has really made my Mondays.
He complimented his fellow hosts and showrunner Jen Flanz, who has served as executive producer on The Daily Show for the previous fifteen years, stating, “They just kick ass.” Other notables include Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta, Desi Lydic, and Jordan Klepper.
This year’s winner was the show, which had six rotating hosts: Desi Lydic, Michael Kosta, Ronny Chieng, Stewart, Michael Klepper, and Dulcé Sloan.
Stewart now has a total of 23 Primetime Emmys with this triumph. With 32 Primetime Emmys won for her work on HBO series, Sheila Nevins now owns the record for most Emmy victories.
The Daily Show dominated the variety category for a large portion of Stewart’s first term as host, winning the best variety, music, or comedy series award 11 times out of 13 years from 2003 to 2015 (the category that was later replaced). With two this year, it now has 28 Emmys in total.
In the same category as The Daily Show, which won, Jimmy Kimmel Live! The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and Late Night with Seth Meyers were also nominated. In this category, these other shows have never won an award. With 12 nominations, Jimmy Kimmel Live! is tied with Real Time with Bill Maher for the most nominations in this category without a victory. Colbert’s program has accumulated seven nominations, while Meyers’ show has received two.
