Jennifer Lopez files for divorce from Ben Affleck: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have decided to call it quits once more.
More than two years after getting married in July 2022, Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, on Tuesday, August 20, several sources confirmed to PEOPLE. The news was initially broken by TMZ.
Lopez stated April 26, 2024 as the date of separation in his filing with the Los Angeles County Superior Court. She is officially representing herself as she filed for divorce on her own without the assistance of a lawyer. The traditional wedding ceremony in Georgia celebrated its second anniversary on August 20, 2022, notwithstanding the couple’s July 17, 2022, marriage in Las Vegas.
There is not a prenuptial agreement, according to insiders who spoke with TMZ; the singer did not clarify this.
“She tried really hard to make things work, and is heartbroken,” a person close to Lopez tells OTHERS. “The children are and always have been the top priority.”

Famously, Lopez and Affleck called it quits on their September 2003 wedding then resumed their romance over 17 years later in 2021. For the first time, the couple formally split up in January 2004, but they stayed friends for the more than ten years that followed.
After Lopez’s breakup from former MLB star Alex Rodriguez, people first revealed in April 2021 that the musician and the Oscar-winning director were getting back together. Later that year, in July, Lopez and Affleck made their Instagram debuts. They later made a comeback on the Venice Film Festival red carpet together in 2021.
According to a representative for Lopez, Affleck proposed to her in April 2022, and on July 16, 2022, the couple had a surprise wedding in Las Vegas. In August of that same year, they had a bigger wedding ceremony in Georgia on the premises of Affleck’s 87-acre estate outside of Savannah. Attendees included Matt Damon, Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, and Hollywood talent agency Patrick Whitesell. The marriage between Lopez and Affleck was officiated by podcaster and life coach Jay Shetty.
The singer and actress was married to Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014; the two had twins, Max and Emme, who are 16 years old. Three of Affleck’s children, Violet Anne, 18, Seraphina Rose, 15, and Samuel, 12, are shared with Jennifer Garner, with whom he was formerly married from 2005 to 2018.
The two most recently worked together on Lopez’s musical documentary This Is Me… Now: A Love Story on Prime Video, which was released in February along with her album of the same name. After they reportedly parted ways in May to promote Lopez’s film Atlas, attend the 2024 Met Gala, and get ready for her national tour, and Affleck stayed in Los Angeles to film The Accountant 2, rumors started to circulate that the couple was having marital problems.
In May, people were informed by several sources that Affleck and Lopez were not cohabiting at their Los Angeles residence. Even though they were spotted together at a number of springtime events, a source claimed that their different personalities and appearances are public.
Lopez and Affleck spent the majority of the summer apart before filing for divorce; Lopez celebrated her 55th birthday and the couple’s second wedding anniversary on July 4th by spending a long time in the Hamptons, New York, while Affleck spent the majority of the summer in Los Angeles.
According to a source who previously spoke with the public, Affleck and Lopez listed their Beverly Hills property, which they had shared since June 2023, for sale in June. Later, in July, Affleck bought a brand-new $20 million house in Los Angeles.
After Lopez made her way back to Los Angeles in August, a source revealed to PERSONS that she “has not seen Ben for weeks” and that they are “moving on separately.”
