How Clea Shearer and Olivia Munn Are Intertwined: The star of “Home Edit,” Shearer, claims that Munn helped her after Shearer received a diagnosis in 2022 and that Munn helped her back when Shearer faced the same illness the following year.
A friend of Clea Shearer’s husband inquired about her well-being shortly after she was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022.
Olivia Munn, 44, was an actress. “Olivia was friends with my husband John, but she and I weren’t individual friends at that point,” the 42-year-old Home Edit star tells people. “However, she was always contacting me. She would follow up with both John and me. She was fantastic.”
Then, in February 2023, less than a year later, Munn received startling news, and Shearer had the opportunity to return the favor.
“I was in New York, and I got a phone call from her, and she was like, ‘I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer and I have 10 million questions,” Shearer recalls. “I exclaimed, ‘Oh my God, I’m giving everything up.'” How am I able to help? Could you permit me to share what I know with you? Olivia and I have been deeply entwined for a few years now.” Olivia Munn.
In March 2022, Shearer received a diagnosis of stage 2 invasive mammary carcinoma, an aggressive kind of breast cancer. Following several months of chemotherapy and radiation, six surgeries—including a double mastectomy and a recent procedure over the summer to remove her ovaries.
Shearer says her experience with cancer has made her a bigger supporter of others like Munn who are going through similar things. Shearer recently began filming a redesigned season of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which she will co-host with Joanna Teplin. “I never give people advice necessarily, but I can speak from my own lived experience,” she states.
Shearer recently teamed up with pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly to share her story partly because of this. “I remember at the very beginning of my cancer journey thinking, ‘I am going to make this cancer have a purpose,’ and I put that as my mission every single day,” Shearer recalls. “I can only relate my personal experience in the hopes that it makes to people and is helpful to people. And I will continue to do that until my last breath.”
