Emma Stone Declaration of Wish to Play a Silent Film: Rewind to Emma Stone’s statement that, following her role in Yorgos Lanthimos’s dialogue-free short film Bleat, she would like to work on more silent films in the future.
Among the most successful actresses in the movie business is Emma Stone. Throughout her career, Stone has worked on numerous multi-genre productions and received numerous accolades for her outstanding acting abilities. Following her performance in the dialogue-free short film Bleat by filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, the actress once expressed her wish to participate in future silent films.
The actress had her short film Bleat have its world premiere at the 61st New York Film Festival last year. Variety claims she discussed the project’s goals with director Lanthimos.
They were unable to talk about their previous film collaboration, Poor Things, at the time due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, so they took part in a 30-minute Q&A and discussed their short film, which was shot in black and white and contained no language.
Stone described her experience working on this silent film as “a dream come true,” telling the outlet during the event that she would be pleased if she never had to talk again.
The actress from the Cruella film said, “And so would a lot of other people.” After stating that she is “being serious” about not having to talk in the movies, she went on to state, “I wish often that we could cut many lines of dialogue because I think people can say a lot more without speaking.” Stone went on, “Yeah, well, sometimes they can express it verbally. I enjoy speaking languages.
In the film Bleat, Stone plays a woman who “lurches among grief at the loss of her partner (Damien Bonnard) and a creature’s instinct for life.” The story takes place on a small, isolated island. In the past, director Yorgos Lanthimos talked about his collaboration with the actress on this project.
When producing Bleat, he told The Guardian, they had a small group of “10” individuals working alone on an island in the dead of winter, cut off from the outside world. According to him, Stone even asked, “Why can not we make all the films like that?” Noting that it was a “very unique experience, it recalled me of the way that we made our first films in Greece.”
Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos have previously worked together on the films Kinds of Love, The Favorite, and Bad Things.
