At the Toronto International Film Festival, Pauletta, Denzel Washington wife, shared some wisdom on how the two of them have remained strong over the years of their marriage.
Over their 40 years of marriage, Denzel Washington and his wife Pauletta have remained close to one another. At the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, the pair was spotted congratulating their children on their recent successes and sharing insights into what has sustained their marriage.
On September 10, 2024, the family attended the much anticipated film festival to see the premiere of The Piano Lesson. Here, the actor from The Equalizer and his spouse enthusiastically turned up to support their son Malcom Washington, who is directing the picture.
Speaking with the media at the ceremony, Pauletta shared a few details about her enduring and passionate marriage to Denzel, 69.
Pauletta said, “There is no secret,” in reference to their successful 41-year marriage. She continued by saying that she and the Man of Fire actor see their marriage as a single unit.
“We put effort into it,” she said.
The two-time Oscar winner’s wife added that while frequent prayer is necessary to fortify a relationship and maintain forgiveness, it is ultimately the fundamental love shared by both parties that sustains it.
Speaking of the pair, Denzel Washington and Pauletta originally connected on the set of Wilma, Denzel’s debut picture, back in 1977. A few months later, at a party hosted by a mutual acquaintance, the two struck up conversation for the first time.
Six years later, they got married and eventually had four kids: 40-year-old John David, 37-year-old Katia, and 33-year-old twins Malcolm and Olivia.
The couple celebrated the premiere of their son Malcolm’s feature film at TIFF, along with John David’s leading role and Katia’s producing credit. In addition, Denzel co-produced the movie.
The Book of Eli actor, who was speaking to the outlet at TIFF, expressed his happiness that people will now be able to view Malcolm’s work. He continued by saying that he was looking forward to his future with August Wilson, whose play from 1987 was made into the aforementioned film, as well as his son’s.
On November 8, 2024, The Piano Lesson will be released in a few cinemas. On November 22, 2024, it will be accessible for streaming on Netflix.
