Billy Crudup Shares His First Thoughts During Emmy Victory: Billy Crudup, who accepted his Emmy on Sunday, September 15, was thinking about his wife, Naomi Watts.
The 56-year-old star of The Morning Show, who was speaking exclusively to people at the Apple TV+ Emmys Party after the 2024 Emmy Awards, shared his thoughts on what was going through his mind when he first learned he had won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a drama series.
The actor jokes with the public, “Don’t black out, don’t throw up, kiss my wife.” Crudup responds, “Yep!” when asked if he could handle those three things.
Watts, 55, tells people that she was simply filled with “pure excitement” for her husband. She was also nominated for her part in Feud: Capote vs. the Swans.
She says, “I felt really happy for him because he works really hard on this character and loves the material. I was very proud of him.”
Speaking to the public, Crudup explains what it meant to have his wife’s support: “What can I tell you, man? It’s fantastic.
“At this point in my career, to get the opportunity to play a character like this, that people respond to, and test the limits of my ability, it’s really rare,” he says about his victory. “Everyone I know is an actor. I’m thankful that I’m in the midst of my life and can take advantage of this kind of opportunity because I know how uncommon it is.
For his performance as UBA president Cory Ellison in the Apple TV+ series, Crudup won an Emmy for the second time; the first time he did so was in 2020.
The actor won the award over co-stars of The Crown’s Jonathan Pryce, Slow Horses’ Jack Lowden, and Shōgun’s Tadanobu Asano and Takehiro Hira, as well as Jon Hamm and Mark Duplass.
In his acceptance speech, Crudup thanked his wife and remarked, “This is an incredible honor.” I’m grateful to everyone. I’m delighted to be here with my attractive spouse, who is also an immigrant and has given a fantastic performance this year for which she has been nominated. She also launches enterprises. Very pleasant to be beside her.
The actor mentioned his kids as he concluded his remarks. “This process has been incredible for me and I hope everybody else who is involved knows how much it means to me, so thank you all,” Crudup said. “And say ‘Hi’ to the children too. I know that wherever you are, you’re watching.”
Watts shares kids Kai, 15, and Sasha, 16, with ex-Liev Schreiber, while Crudup shares son William Atticus Parker, 20, with his ex-Mary-Louise Parker.
He and Watts tied the knot in a courtroom ceremony in New York City in June 2023, and this June, in the company of loved ones, they said “I do” once more in Mexico City.
