Before his arrest on Thursday, August 29, people have learnt that the professional had no intentions to participate in season 33 of Dancing with the Stars.
In Napa Valley, California, Chigvintsev was taken into custody on suspicion of felony corporal injury to a spouse. Later that day, he was freed after being arrested and given a $25,000 bail.
Chigvintsev’s choice to skip the next season is not unusual because professional dancers frequently switch up seasons in accordance with celebrity castings.
On September 4 on Good Morning America, the whole cast of the upcoming season of the ABC dance competition will be revealed. Stephen Nedoroscik, an Olympian who won bronze, was the first announced celebrity competitor.
Chigvintsev has participated in the competition in 12 seasons total, including the last four. Most recently, he finished fourth in the competition while paired with Charity Lawson, a former Bachelorette.
In 2020, he shared the mirrorball trophy with season 29 companion Kaitlyn Bristowe, who was also a lead on The Bachelorette.
When Chigvintsev and Nikki Garcia (previously Nikki Bella) were put together on season 25 of Dancing with the Stars in 2017, that is how he met his wife. Garcia and her then-fiance John Cena were still dating at the time, but the two split a year later.
Later that year, the retired WWE wrestler got back in touch with Artem Chigvintsev, and in March 2019, the two officially announced their romance. Eight months later, they declared their engagement, and in July 2020, they welcomed their son Matteo into the world.
The Dancing with the Stars pro was taken into custody on Thursday, August 29, shortly before 10 a.m. Less than an hour later, he was checked into the Napa County Jail and later that day, he was released.
According to intake records that the public was able to access, Artem Chigvintsev was charged with corporal injury to his spouse, and his bail amount was set at $25,000. Although it has not been verified, Garcia, Artem Chigvintsev wife, is most likely the spouse in question considering the charges.
Dancing with the Stars’ 33rd season will debut on ABC and Disney+ on Tuesday, September 17 at 8 p.m. ET. The following day, the episode will be accessible for streaming on Hulu.
