Selma Blair Explains Her Son First Reaction to Seeing the Film Cruel Intentions: Recently, Selma Blair disclosed the reaction of her son Arthur, whom she shares with her former partner Jason Bleick, to her iconic teen romance drama film Cruel Intentions.
Selma Blair has acted in numerous romantic comedies, such as the well-liked Cruel Intentions from 1999. In the film, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in March, Blair portrayed Cecile Caldwell alongside co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar as Kathryn Merteuil. The Purple Violets actress recently shared her son Arthur’s reaction to his first viewing of the movie.
In a recent interview with people magazine, Selma Blair disclosed that she and her ex-partner Jason Bleick’s son Arthur Saint Bleck just viewed her iconic smash Cruel Intentions. The actress said to the magazine that her kid, who is now a teenager, has always refused to see any of her movies.
Blair went on to say that she asked him, “I spoke to my son, and I said, ‘What did you do with your girlfriend this weekend?'” after he saw her 1999 teen romantic drama picture. He says, ‘We watched Cruel Intentions.’ I never could convince him to view one of my films.”
She clarified that although she had tried, her son had never seen any of her movies; however, he had watched Cruel Intentions with a girl, stating, “I was like, ‘Oh dear, it’s a s*xy movie.”’
The actress from Feast of Love revealed that her son had even copied a daring move from the movie and had confronted her about it. Blair said he inquired, “Mom, what was that?” because in the movie, her character Cecile does it. Adding emphasis to her statement that it was “naughty,” she claimed that he “still enjoyed” the film and that “it still holds up.”
Cruel Intentions follows the vengeful stepsiblings Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe) as they play a cunning game of deceit against Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon) and Cecile Caldwell (Selma Blair) at their prestigious Manhattan home. Earlier this month, Blair told the magazine that she “never” skips on rewatching the film.
The actress responded, “It makes me so happy though that it would give any more attention because that movie is such a good, sexy.” She said that the movie is one of the most “gorgeous” and that it has stood the test of time, adding, “I love it.” She also complimented Denise Wingate, the costume designer, for her “amazing job” with the clothes. I also adore every member of that cast.”
Blair went on, “I’ll watch it all the time,” adding that she doesn’t wear it. I won’t, however, switch it off if it’s running in the background. Like, never.”
In the meantime, Prime Video offers a streaming version of Roger Kumble’s Evil Intentions. It is a contemporary retelling of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ 1782 novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses, which grossed over $70 million at the global box office at the time of its release
