Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to Complete Their Divorce After 8 Years: The protracted divorce between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is still pending.
The Wolfs actor, 60, and Maria actress, 49, still “can not find a resolution and finalize the divorce,” over eight years after she filed for divorce, a source close to Pitt tells PEOPLE. This is “pretty shocking.”
On August 23, 2014, the former couple wed in a small ceremony in the French hamlet of Correns. However, on September 20, 2016, Jolie filed for divorce, ending their two-year marriage and ten-year history together.
“One of the main causes of their discontent prior to Angelina’s divorce filing was their constant arguments about raising their children,” the person close to Pitt and Jolie adds. The couple have six children together: Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and the twins, Knox and Vivienne, 16.
The insider notes that, given that Jolie was raised in Hollywood while Pitt was not, the former pair “always had different approaches to life just in general.”
The insider continues, “This also applied to the kids.” “Brad desired for them to have a regimented lifestyle and a predetermined curriculum. Angie wished for everyone to discover who they were, what made them happy, and what inspired them.”
The insider claims that “one can say this parenting approach won.” “The kids are incredibly intelligent, artistic, and free-spirited. But Brad is incredibly proud.”
Eight years later, Pitt and Jolie are still embroiled in a bitter legal struggle over custody, money, and a separate case involving the French winery Château Miraval.
“Hopefully they can both get on the same page to at least resolve the matrimonial side of things while the Miraval case plays out,” comments a second individual with knowledge of the disagreement.
Before Jolie filed for divorce, “their disagreements took over” in the relationship, a source told the public in July. The source also said that things “turned nasty and it was not a good situation for anyone.”
“Part of the reason the divorce has dragged on for so long is all the hatred. At that time, the insider stated, “Neither will let it go.”
Pitt and Jolie are both in attendance at the 81st Venice Film Festival, which began on Wednesday, August 28, and will continue through September 7.
The former couple will not meet again during the festival, though, as Jolie’s Maria will debut on Thursday, August 29, and Wolfs will debut on Sunday, September 1.
Jolie gave a speech on Thursday prior to the film’s debut at a press conference for Maria. There is a lot I will not say in this room that you undoubtedly know and guess, she told reporters when asked how she personally linked to opera diva Maria Callas.
“I related to the part of her that is extremely soft and didn’t have room in the world to be as soft as she truly was and as emotionally open as she truly was,” the winner of the Oscar said about Callas. “I think I share her vulnerability more than anything.”
