Taylor Swift is covered by Coldplay and Maggie Rogers in Vienna: While giving a Wednesday performance in Vienna, Coldplay honored Taylor Swift.
The band, which is presently on its world tour with Music of the Spheres, played at Ernst Happel Stadium a few days after the 34-year-old singer was forced to postpone her shows on August 8, 9, and 10 due to a foiled terror plot.
The quartet sang Swift’s 2008 hit song “Love Story” alongside their opening act, Maggie Rogers, in remembrance of the pop artist and the hordes of admirers who were unable to see her event.
A capella cover of the song was posted by Rogers on Instagram with the caption, “From Vienna with love 💗💗💗 @coldplay @taylorswift.”
Frontman Chris Martin of Coldplay explains why they chose to sing the song before the show in a video posted by an X concertgoer.
“We have not brought up the fact that Vienna made headlines throughout the globe for the wrong reasons. However, Martin, 47, stated, “What really got through to us was the kindness, unity, and beauty of all of Taylor Swift’s fans.” We thought that even if Taylor is obviously in America and not present, we still needed to give it our all while we were here. Therefore, I do not want you to believe that Swifities are unimportant to us in our band.”
In response to the foiled terror plan, Live Nation GSA assured Coldplay fans the day before the show that “the well-being of all attendees, artists, and staff is our top priority.”
According to the event company, the stadium was “coordinating in the lead-up to the concerts with local authorities and partners to ensure the safety of everyone on site.”
“Venue security will conduct thorough searches at all entry points to the stadium, so getting into the venue may take longer than expected,” said the statement.
Days after three suspects were detained in relation to the planned attack, Swift made a comeback to the London stage for a five-night engagement at Wembley Stadium, which concluded on Tuesday, August 20.
In a statement made available to the public, the Metropolitan Police Service stated that “there is nothing to indicate that the matters being investigated by the Austrian authorities will have an impact on upcoming events here in London” before the performances.
In a lengthy Instagram post on Wednesday, Aug. 21, the Grammy winner reminisced on her experience singing in London after the foiled terror attempt, calling it a “rollercoaster of emotions.”
“It was heartbreaking to see our Vienna gigs canceled. Since so many people had made plans to attend those gigs, learning of the cancellations’ cause made me feel both extremely guilty and afraid,” Swift remarked. But I was also really appreciative of the authorities as, as a result of them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”
Swift continued, “I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows.” This was her explanation for delaying her decision to break her silence.
“In situations such as this one, remaining silent really means exercising self-control and holding off on speaking until the appropriate moment. “Safely completing our European tour was my top priority, and I am relieved to report that we succeeded in doing so,” she said in her statement.
