Produced by Ryan Murphy, this new show aims to explore the unsettling elements of their case.
The brothers are seen approaching and stealthily entering their family home in the series teaser, which puts viewers on edge until the scene is abruptly cut to gunfire. With this most recent edition, Murphy—who is well-known for his work on Dahmer—plans to delve into yet another dark period in criminal history.
Monsters, Ryan Murphy’s second foray into true crime the tragic happenings in Beverly Hills during the late 1980s are explored in The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. The show looks at the notorious case of the Menendez brothers, who were found guilty in 1996 of killing their parents and given a life sentence.
The Menendez brothers maintained that their actions were the consequence of long-term abuse by their parents, despite the prosecutors’ claims that the brothers were driven by greed for their family’s wealth, as the Netflix summary makes clear. The show investigates this intricate case and poses the question of whether the brothers’ acts were motivated by fear and desperation or if they are actually monsters.
Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch play Lyle and Erik Menendez, respectively, while Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny play the parents.
