On August 16, on the second day of their visit to the South American nation, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made connections with rivals.

Athletes from the Colombian team that Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games brought together for the Bogotá event. Prince Harry started the worldwide adaptive sports competition for sick, injured, and wounded veterans and service members in 2014.

Towards the end of the visit, Harry, 39, who is usually up for participating in adaptive sports with wounded and veteran service members, got involved. He joined Rafael Yerney Pinillo, the nation’s vice president, in a volleyball match as Vice President Francia Márquez and Meghan, 43, supported them.

Harry and Meghan had earlier been given a tour of the Centro de Rehabilitaion Inclusiva’s facilities, which included a look at the gym with a rock-climbing wall, the swimming pool, and the therapy areas. The couple discussed their workout routines, favorite exercises, and strategies for maintaining strength with the athletes.

“It is remarkable to witness the sheer number of individuals who can unite to form a single team,” Prince Harry remarked in the cardiology centre. “They are all so incredible to watch,” Meghan continued, beaming with admiration for the action.

Following the game, Prince Harry stopped to chat with a number of Korean War veterans who were overjoyed to see him. He and the duchess also took a look around the center’s art hall, which showcased pieces made by Invictus athletes.

Some of the artists offered Duchess Meghan a painting, hand-knitted creatures, a beaded necklace, and matching earrings. The Ministry of National Defence Veterans gave Prince Harry a special memorial plaque.

The athlete read, “To Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex,” as she gave the gift to the Duke.

“In appreciation and thanks for your commitment and priceless provision of sporting events and the Invictus Games as a means of rehabilitation for Colombian wounded, ill, and injured law enforcement and military personnel, whether they are active duty members or veterans.”

Colombia sent a delegation to the sixth Invictus Games competition in Düsseldorf, Germany in September 2023, making it the first nation in South America to take part in the event. Following the gold-medal sitting volleyball match between the Colombian squad and Poland, Prince Harry and Meghan joined a group shot.

Rosa Sanchez Bermudez, who was hurt while doing her duties as a police officer, was the first female athlete for the Colombian team at the Invictus Games. She previously told the public that the “Invictus Games are like a family.”

About 290,000 soldiers from three branches make up the Military Forces of Colombia, according to the country’s biography page on the Invictus Games website.

After a hectic first day in Bogotá, where they began their tour of Colombia on August 15, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the Invictus Games. Vice President Francia Márquez invited Prince Harry and Meghan to visit Colombia. On August 1, Márquez said that the couple had “kindly accepted my invitation to visit our beautiful country” and that they would be travelling to Bogotá, Cartagena, and Cali.

On August 15, Márquez, the first Black woman to assume the position of vice president in Colombia, and her husband, Rafael Yerney Pinillo, welcomed Prince Harry and Meghan to the country. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex then attended a social media debate with kids at a charter school, saw performances at the National Centre for the Arts, and gave a speech at an EAN University symposium about creating a safer online future.

“With the Archewell Foundation, me and my wife believe that information integrity is a fundamental right,” Prince Harry stated in part.

As they continue their tour of Colombia, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are scheduled to visit the cities of Cartagena and Cali. The main focus of the agenda is the philanthropic work of the Archewell Foundation, together with other issues that are dear to their hearts, such as female empowerment and the military community.
