US becomes the first nation to win 3000 Olympic medals: As the first nation in history to win 3,000 Olympic medals, the United States has created history.

After Team USA’s swimmers earned four more medals at the swimming finals for the 2024 Summer Olympics on Tuesday, July 30, America accomplished the extraordinary feat. A statement on X including pictures of multiple Olympic competitors flaunting their medals served as Team USA’s official confirmation of the milestone.

The 3,000-medal total includes both Summer and Winter Games medals.

Regan Smith said to reporters, including the public, “I am proud of myself,” following her silver medal win at La Defence Arena.

Bronze went to Katharine Berkoff.

“I am incredibly proud of Katherine for upholding her legacy. The 22-year-old Smith continued, “Her dad is incredible and I know that he is proud of her too. It is just really special to kind of see that continue.” Her teammate’s father, David Berkoff, is a four-time Olympic swimmer.

Bobby Finke, who had won gold in the 800-meter freestyle at the 2020 Tokyo Games, finished second in that same event on the same day.

Although “it sucks not to win,” the 24-year-old swimmer told the media, including PEOPLE, he “really did everything he could and I got to be happy of that even if it is not gold.”

The 22-year-old American swimmer stated to reporters, “This group is really easy.” Since the three of us have been swimming together for a while, I do not think there is much discussion about the race. Before the race, it is more about hanging around, having fun, and feeling positive.”

The women participated in four apparatuses during their team final: vault, uneven bars, balancing beam, and floor. They regularly finished first the entire time and took home gold trophies.
